Oprah’s guests at Byron Friday 10th Dec!

WOW what a fun and inspiring 24 hours.

I came home from waterpolo last night and jumped into a new lease of life about being on Oprah.

I sent out 25 press releases to newspapers last night trying to get a front page editorial. I acquired the producers contact email so sent her an email. She replied saying their shows were pretty booked, but you never know your luck in a big city and you never know with Oprah.

Then I started gathering lists of her guests from interviews that the media have conducted. I ended up of list of 16 people.

Today I headed down to Byron as I heard 40 of her guests were staying. On the way down I received a tip off about the movements of the guests. First I headed to Gaia and spoke to the manager (who was setting up for the afternoon function). She took a copy of my books for Olivia Newton John but wouldn’t take copies for Oprah. (I later found out that Oprah was in Melbourne).

101220104144 101220104147

Gaia – the resort is devine, and this is where the marquee was being set up with sensational Byron Hinterland Views.

Then off to Byron on Byron to give 40 books (with notes) to her 40 guests. I hung out for awhile and had a latte and yummy wine.

101220104162

I wanted (and needed a surf) but it had blown out. :-( so sitting in the magic sun of Wategos had to do. :-)

Renewed energy off to the Harvest Cafe in Newrybar where the guests were dining before going to Gaia but was running out of time so came home to meet with the Bulletin. 5 mins from home, the journalist called to say the editor only wanted to run the story if I was definitely on :-(

101220104153 101220104152

Newrybar – the Harvest Cafe – casual but lovely. Approx 50 meters along in the town, the ol’ honesty veggie-shop system.  Local sites below. Planning away….

101220104156101220104149

I have been toying with the idea of driving to Sydney on Saturday and coming back Sunday to drop my books to the hotel where the guests are staying but gut feeling is saying I could be door blocked and that is a long way to drive to be turned around. So tonight I used a mix of courier, Australia Express post and ordinary post to send my books to the guests. I included a personal message.

101220104163

The positives:

The producer now knows I exist, has a copy of my book and knows why I dearly want to be interviewed by Oprah

There maybe a 3rd and 4th show

80 of her guests now have a copy of my book.

The negatives – there are none. Only progressions .

forward I march

determination, conviction sheer desire – I don’t know what you call it but I am still giving it my all to be a guest on Oprah’s show. My message for women is too important. I also know that Oprah will love my whole journey through life.

I am also going to drive to Byron tomorrow to give her guests some books, and then I shall drive to Sydney on Saturday deliver some books to her other guests and then drive back home on Sunday.

I have never doubted that I will be on her show – I just need to find the key to open that door.

Oh yes, and today I was given a producers email at Harpo.

Oh yes, the local newspaper are coming out tomorrow to do a photo shoot. I am very grateful for there support.

I can do this, I can make this happen.

This is today’s PR that has gone to all leading newspapers to try to get some front page coverage.

Why is a single mum from the Gold Coast trying so hard to be a GUEST on the Oprah show?

Have you ever had a dream? A dream from childhood that was so BIG that nothing would get in the way of you trying to execute it?

This is the excitement, the force and the desire behind one woman mission to appear as a guest on Oprah next week.

And the reasons for her wanting to be a guest and interviewed by Oprah?

She has a mandate to assist 65 million Asian orphans. She has published a book (3 actually) for women on hormones and why women are becoming men and wants to discuss this with Oprah to helps hundreds of women world-wide to better understand themselves and their health. (She is now a world leader in this area and her book Beauty and the Beast Within has been show cased on Today and Sunrise). AND she wants to inspire women of the world to know that even when the odds seemed stacked against you, with positive steps forward, you can achieve anything!

Sam Beau Patrick is the lady behind this inspirational story. She has been keeping a blog of her journey (http://oprahhealthqueen.blogspot.com/2010/11/why-pick-me.html) and has a following of friends, associates and clients all wanting her to appear on Oprah.

For the last 3 months she has spent 2 hours most days sending emails, books and visualizing her interview with Oprah. As she stated in September ..” this quest is not so much about me, but for all the people I represent and can help. I am going to give it my ALL.”

She is a critical care nurse, naturopath, author and has a back ground in pharmacology. She has her own business and runs a website for women: www.byebyebridget.com and speak regularly to motivate and inspire people. In her private life she raises 3 children (4, 6 and 10 years old) on her own and is actively involved with raising money for Bravehearts (A charity for raising awareness in sexual abuse in children). This year she was nominated for Telstra’s Business Woman of the Year and last year she received accolades from Red Cross for her response in establishing the Gold Coast Emergency Fire Relief Centre (she arranged Two thousand five hundred boxes clothes, shoes and goods to the survivors of the Victorian Bush Fires).

She is planning on driving to Sydney on Sunday to give each of Oprah’s guests a copy of her book.

A walk in the rain

Great week-end capped off with a short bush walk this morning at one of the most Heavenly places on Earth – Mt Warning.

Saturday was fun – Kalani had a few special friends over for a party – low key, lots of playing and the kids were so cute!

Sunday was recovery day and the kids played in the back yard. Fortunately with a pool and big trampoline I don’t have to take the kids places for them to have fun.051220104094

Then today a quick but refreshing meander at Mt Warning national park. The rain making it all the bit more special. Heaven.

one more time for oprah’s suggestion box…

WOMEN are becoming MEN hormonally

My research is indicating that women are becoming men. This is due to 3 things:
1. stress hormones (cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline)
2. sugar hormones (insulin which increases testosterone)
3. social hormones (women are thinking like men eg work)

Sam , Australia's Health Queen has appeared on National Television and wants to spread the word to women of the world . Infertility, obesity are also signs of hormone imbalances.

www.healthqueen.com.au

thank-you Sam

Sunday, November 28, 2010

This is (only) one of my submissions for Oprah..

Women are becoming men.

LOGLINE: Women are producing more male hormone (testosterone) than ever before, leading to aggressive women who are unable to conceive (infertility has nearly doubled in last 20 years) and who are unable to lose weight.

Outline of content: Discussion about changing hormones in women, how these changes may present (ie infertility, obesity, facial hair, aggression) and how to get appropriate treatment.

FACTS and fiction: 83% of women have identified that they feel they have or could have, a hormone problem.

(source www.byebyebridget.com survey on females and hormones, Aug 2010)

Poly cystic ovary syndrome is the medical condition of producing too much testosterone and cysts on the ovaries. It is believed to affect 1 in 10 women. Sam Beau Patrick, The Health Queen believes this figure is closer to 4 in 10 women.
(source http://www.womanshealth.gov.au)

THE STORY : A contributing risk factor for women and high testosterone levels is work.

“..Work often requires that women think with their heads first, not their hearts – which is unnatural for many women..” Sam Beau Patrick, The Health Queen said on Australia’s Sunrise show in August. “ The result is a rise in male hormone, Testosterone.” (A later national interview with Channel 9).

Her book, Beauty and the Beast Within, postulates possible reasons for the rising levels in testosterone in women, such as stress, evolution of women into the work force and a high carbohydrate diet. Testosterone is primarily a male hormone and is responsible for the male secondary sexual characteristics such as facial hair, acne , deepening voice and aggression. In women it can cause all of those symptoms as well as insulin blunting (a major cause of diabetes and obesity), poly cystic ovary syndrome and infertility.

Sam has 3 clients willing to appear on television to discuss their experiences.

Sam believes in educating and informing people to seek out health options that have measurable and obvious benefits. Sam has become a world expert in this area and her book is very topical and helping hundreds of women.

She has appeared recently on Week-end Sunrise and Today

great week-end

I love reflecting on my week-ends. i had the best – very academic, active and arty.

On Saturday I attended a seminar by 21st Century on buying property in the USA – I’m keen, but will do some more sums. One run and one walk. I attempted to go to watch the cricket (ashes) but was greeted by a sea of drunk Aussies and Poms. They were staggering, singing and generally sucking up the cricket frivolities and why wouldn’t you?

Home to do some art and a night with Dave Grohl.

281120104016

Sunday was a big clean up before I get the 3 amigos. I had 2 clients – I love my clients. One bought me home made choc chip biscuits – HOW DELICIOUS! Thanks Helen.

Work, work, work. To the markets to buy some vegies, some organic meat, and to have some art works framed.

Home to walk honey, then headed off for a run and cooked a big pot of casserole.

241120104005 Honey smooching

Lots of work into the night and helped a friend edit his amazing new sports psychology program.

281120104017

Yummy salsa:

- organic tomatoes (these from my garden)

- 1 avocado

- different herbs and balsamic and olive oil.

Chop and devour – devine!

All in all, a great week-end!

How to be on Oprah

Channel 9 interviewed Susan Harrow an author of a book “How to be on Oprah’s Show”.

She gave clear, succinct advice about the necessary criteria to even try to be on her show. I took notes (of course) and this are the key points:

- you need to walk before you can run so

- have local tv exposure

- have a message to tell

- be qualified and an expert in an area

- have a following

- feel comfortable to have a conversation with Oprah, and to think on your feet.

She suggested creating a story to up-sell to Harpo (not the product or service)

She suggested the following:

- create a story with people willing to appear on the show

- get some media training

Reflecting on the above, I think I have everything covered. I will design and write an actual segment though and submit that to Harpo. Off I go to work :-)

Gluten free (Healthy) pancakes

The kids love these.

201120103896

Ingredients

1 free range egg

1/2 cup almond meal

1/2 SR gluten free flour

2 TBS of melted butter

Enough milk (we use Zymil, but any ok incl. soy and rice)

Mix dry ingredients into a bowl. Add the egg and then add milk to the batter slowly. You usually need 3/4 cup of milk. This will avoid any lumps. Lastly add the melted butter.

Stir vigorously then place in round dallops into a flying pan with melted butter or oil.

201120103897

We have ours with organic jam, honey or fruit. They are delicious!

Great week-end with the kids

IT was an up and down week, and fortunately finished with lots of laughs.

Mischa had a great time with Tracy and the Equine Experience. The 2 lit’ uns and myself wandered around the paddock and talked with the horses.

201120103898 201120103911

201120103927 201120103918

Good memories at Sea World and the markets.

211120103971

And I managed to finish a drawings of River Hue, in Vietnam, a photo I took in 1992.

211120103967

Gluten free lunch idea

This is another recipe that kids as young as my boy, 3, can do. Sushi.

It’s not that hard and the combinations are endless and made at home – it’s so much cheaper than the shops.

Ingredients:

Sushi rice

Seaweed for sushi making

fillings:

- tin tuna, vegemite, mayo, chopped red onion

- avocado

- fresh salmon/tuna with a smidge of wisabi (more for the grown ups)

- cooked chicken, grated beetroot, grated carrots, and grated cucumber

Put rice into a saucepan and fill with cold water so that the level finishes 1cm above the rice grains. Cook until all the water is absorbed. Towards the end you will need to stir more frequently. This should take approximately 20 minutes.

Allow the rice to cool.

Place a piece of sushi seaweed paper on a little bamboo (sushi roller) mat.

Smear a thin layer of rice (1-3 grains deep if you can imagine that) all the way to the edges. It’s tacky work but better if you lightly wet the tips of your fingers with cold water and knead to the edges of the sushi, much like pushing a pizza base to the edges.201120103952

Place your filling 2/3 of the way down in a long line. 201120103953

Roll the first part away from you, using the sushi mat, tuck it in tight. Finish rolling the sushi roll and “glue” the edges with water or pressure.

201120103955201120103954

Place back in the fridge. You can cut them straight away or cut them the morning that you need them. Great for lunches and a good was to get much needed omega 3 oils into the kids.

Today’s organic shop

How nice running into friends at the Organic markets. And today I added to the “grow-thy-own” garden with another herbal garden bed:

211120103964

My friend and his wife, make and sell these: Organic Heirloom Vegetable Seedlings. Show respect for your body and health from the inside out.  There are over 30 different seedlings and herbs in this sack. The kids take a keen interest learning the different herbs and their healing qualities. And I pretty much go out at night, look up at the stars and munch away.

This was the weekly shop for $35. Corriander x 2, mint x 1, 2 lettuce, heaps of roma toms, punnet of devine strawberries, french sorrel, kale, 2 caps, 2 zucchinis and houmous.

211120103965

The girls discovered gluten free pizza bases and somehow started their own little “make your own pizza” workshop. It’s so easy when they are involved with the preparation. They always want to eat the fruits of their labour.

211120103961 211120103958

PS: strike a pose and don’t smile!

Then some random playing and being kids

Why pick me?

I sent an email to a few people last night asking if they would send a “nomination “ to Harpo for me to appear as a guest on Oprah’s Aussie Adventure.

Some of these people didn’t realise my story – funny as from the inside looking out I had never considered that people didn’t know everything about me. they share a wine with me, so I assume they know EVERYTHNG about me… so to self-indulge a little and share a bit more about my self.. this is “me” and why I would like to be on Oprah. Maybe i will work backwards..

2010 Sam, Australia’s health Queen to appear on Oprah for multiple reasons:

1. My book: Beauty and the Beast Within, discusses a new endemic affecting women of the modern societies – hormone imbalances. This is the main cause for breast cancers, infertility, obesity, emotional upset and relationship break down. I believe women need to know why these changes are occurring, why they are at risk and how to avoid the health problems arising from it.

Beauty Beast front Cover Menopause - front cover

2. My new book: Menopause. This book is out this week. Informative book giving women options to manage menopause.

3. My orphan cause: I have been working towards en masse assistance to Asian orphans for many years. I have sponsored, and assisted many, but appearing on Oprah will give me a greater platform to help MORE little darlings.

4. Simply as an inspiration. My mantra - if you believe it, you can do it. I am a sole parent with 3 kids, self sufficient with great friends. I worked out long ago that this life (for me anyway) is not about being the richest person in monetary value, but being the richest person in life experiences. That is what money buys. Choice and experiences. I am fortunate to have both.

However, My gorgeous son is born this year in December and he is an amazing reward.

2004

I think that is it… a small bio. Anyway, I have big dreams about assisting the orphans in Asia. In fact, its hard to describe. It’s more than a dream. It’s like a calling. Regardless of what happens with Oprah, I know that I will be visiting and assisting orphans before too long.

I am so excited

I think i have found the key… Oprah is asking for Aussies to appear on her show. What a great opportunity. the link is https://www.oprah.com/ownshow/plug_form.html?plug_id=6004470 please go for it. There are a few different categories.

Spring Carnival in Melbourne

Absolutely ROCKS!

Melbourne is a FUN city and this week has been not disappointed. Spring Carnival – whether you are into horses or not, is a fun, colourful time.

I was fortunate enough to have a client fly me down (thank you x) and then went to the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. It is up there with the Dubai Cup, Kentucky Derby etc… Brilliant day and should be on everyone’s bucket list.

I also was able to catch up with my besties… What is it about the connection and friendships developed in high school??? In the last month I have caught up with so many of my beautiful true-blue mates. And I love you all as I always have mwahh….

Here are 2 of my besties at a cool drinks and eats place: RIVAs in St. Kilda. Then onto a great night club called Vineyard. Both lots of fun and friendly locals.

311020103798

Melbourne has some of the best shopping in the world (not that I love shopping, but when I do, I like good variety, quality and inspiration).

From Smith St Collingwood – great retro shops..

Gluten Free Snacks

Finding gluten free snacks for kids can be a challenge. Mine had these vegie chips last week-end.

It’s easy to do.

Simply slice up vegies – zucchini, beetroot, potato, sweet potato or any other firm-ish vegetable. Spread out on a baking dish and drizzle with olive oil.

Put into an over on 240 and bake for 40 mins. They taste great with some oregano sprinkled on them and Himalayan Rock salt. MMMmmm

Or you can use them as “dipping chips” for dips :-)
